“Bird Calls. Part Two of Camelot”

This October 2013 installment of Bill Willingham, Mark Buckingham, and Steve Leialoha's long-running Vertigo series continues "Camelot" with a cover by Joao Ruas that feels more like watercolor poetry than superhero bombast. A small figure in red reaches toward a great pale creature swathed in flowing white, while a red-haired young woman and a cloaked, watchful figure loom in the background — all of it set against warm Art Nouveau-style swirling lines and a watchful dark cat perched to the left. It's a beautifully atmospheric image that captures Fables at its most dreamlike and enigmatic.
