Fables #87
Fables #87 kicks off the five-part "Witches" arc with a hauntingly beautiful Joao Ruas cover that stops you cold: a small, winged figure — helmeted in ornate gold and clutching an axe — hovers amid coiling tendrils and pale, ethereal space, while a white bird swoops close and a dark spider lurks at the edge of the frame. The dreamlike palette and delicate rendering give the image a mythic, fairy-tale unease that feels perfectly at home in Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham's Vertigo world. With "Witches 1 of 5" announced right on the cover, this October 2009 issue signals that something significant is stirring in Fabletown.
