Fables #141 kicks off "Happily Ever After" — subtitled "The Last Story of Flycatcher" — with a hauntingly beautiful Nimit Malavia cover that mirrors two figures in elegant symmetry: a dark-haired figure above and a long-haired figure below, their faces nearly touching across a divide of blooming roses rendered in rich teal and warm gold. The design is quietly arresting, balancing fairy-tale romanticism with an undercurrent of melancholy that feels entirely fitting for Vertigo's long-running series of exiled storybook characters. Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham continue their celebrated collaboration here in 2014, with inks by Steve Leialoha and Andrew Pepoy bringing the interior world of Fabletown to life once more.
