Jack of Fables #32

This 2009 Vertigo entry in Bill Willingham and Matthew Sturges's irreverent spin-off series offers one of the more unexpectedly charming covers of its run — a stout, self-possessed pig plants itself front and center beneath a green canvas tent while three women and a long-haired young man peer over the top with varying degrees of alarm and bewilderment. The teaser copy — "Patton learned everything he knew about scrappin' from…" — suggests the pig has quite a résumé. Brian Bolland's cover pencils and inks give the whole absurd tableau a grounded realism that makes it all the funnier.
