Harry Lucey
1913–1984
Harry Lucey was an American comic artist born on November 13, 1913, who became one of the most prolific and recognizable hands in the Archie Comics stable. He passed away on August 28, 1984.
Lucey entered the industry through MLJ Comics, the publisher that would eventually evolve into Archie Comics, and built his career across several decades of steady, dependable work. From the late 1950s through the mid-1970s, he served as the primary artist on *Archie*, the company's flagship title, and his interpretation of Riverdale's cast became deeply familiar to generations of readers. His credits extended well beyond that central book, encompassing *Laugh Comics*, *Archie Giant Series Magazine*, *Archie Comics Digest*, *Life with Archie*, and *Everything's Archie* — a body of work spanning nearly 500 issues in roles that included penciling, inking, and lettering.
Lucey brought a clean, expressive line to the Archie characters, capturing the mild suburban comedy of the series with a lightness that suited the material without condescending to it. His long tenure made him one of the definitive visual voices of the brand during its peak commercial years. Though not widely celebrated outside dedicated comics-history circles, his consistency and volume of output left a durable imprint on one of American comics' most enduring franchises.
