Veronica, ever the realist with a hint of flair, agrees with the spirit of the idea, declaring that the American way is to spend freely, regardless of the economy, and let Daddy foot the bill. Written by Frank Doyle and illustrated by Harry Lucey with inks by Chic Stone, colors by Barry Grossman, and letters by Bill Yoshida, this 1987 issue features a cover by Dan DeCarlo Jr. that captures the lighthearted tension of Archie’s financial dilemma.

Archie's parents are planning to spend less because of the recession, but Archie argues that the only way to get out of a recession is for people to spend more, not less. Mr. Andrews sees through this as just a plea for a higher allowance. Later, when Archie explains his theory to Veronica, she says that the American way is to spend, spend, spend, whether there's a recession or not -- and let Daddy pay the bill.
