“Point of View”

A perfect autumn afternoon goes sideways on the cover of this 1974 digest, as Veronica waxes poetic about fall's beautiful reds, yellows, oranges, and browns — while Archie, buried under a massive tumbling pile of leaves, cheekily adds "black and blue" to the color palette. Dan DeCarlo's cover art captures that effortless Riverdale charm, with portrait medallions of Lil' Jinx, Jughead, Little Archie, and Reggie framing the seasonal chaos. At 160 pages of stories, puzzles, and fun, Archie Comics Digest #9 is a wonderfully packed slice of 1974 Archie entertainment.

While reading a book about a mysterious avenger called the Green Hand, Archie crashes into a door and gets two black eyes. Not wanting Veronica to think he's clumsy he decides to stay out of school for a week and tells Reggie not to squeal. Reggie, on the other hand, decides to send messages with a green hand print and make it look like Archie is staying out of school out of fear.
