“Runs in the Family”

In "Runs in the Family," Archie's Pals 'n' Gals Double Digest Magazine #50 delivers a delightfully absurd twist on teenage romance, spotlighting Cricket O'Dell, a girl whose obsession with money is so intense she can actually smell it. When her interest in Archie wanes upon learning he’s only connected to the wealthy Lodges, Reggie Mantle tries to offload her onto a richer man—only to find that Jughead, with a little cash in hand, becomes her new target. Written by Frank Doyle and brought to life with warm, expressive art by Harry Lucey, this quirky tale is a charmingly silly showcase of the Archie universe’s enduring knack for turning everyday absurdity into something memorable. The cover, by Rex W. Lindsey, captures the story’s playful energy with a sharp, stylized design.

Meet Cricket O'Dell, a girl who is obsessed with money. She not only loves money, she can literally smell it. And she'll follow any man who has money. When she shows signs of being attracted to Archie because of his connection to the "gorgeously rich" Lodges, Archie passes her off to a man with more money, Reggie Mantle. After a night of doing the things that Cricket considers fun (like listening to a record of slot machines in Las Vegas), Reggie has to find a way to get rid of her, so he gives some money to Jughead, causing Cricket to follow him instead.
