Archie's Pal Jughead Annual #8
In "Pressure Cooker," Jughead’s attempt to keep the sidewalk safe from ice leads to a chain of increasingly chaotic mishaps, from ash-covered cops to a collapsing awning and a hot-water-sprayed slip-and-slide. Samm Schwartz’s crisp art brings the winter mayhem to life in this classic 1960 annual, with Harry Lucey’s cover capturing the scene’s absurd tension.

Jughead shovels snow from the sidewalk and throws half a bucket of ashes on the ice, to prevent slipping. He throws the other half of the ashes over the fence and it lands on a policeman. To prevent the problem recurring, Uncle Herman puts an awning over the sidewalk. The awning breaks and drops snow on the head of the same policeman. The policeman says he'll forgive if the sidewalk is clean of snow by the time he runs around the block. They spray it with hot water and the policeman slides on it when he comes in running. Herman puts himself in jail.
