“The Printed Word”

In "The Printed Word," Archie #166 (1966), the town of Riverdale buzzes with rumors and notices that stir up more than just curiosity. Betty gets a wedding invite that throws her for a loop, Reggie fumes over missing the year’s top athletes list—though Dilton’s quietly making up for it with a football letter—while Mr. Lodge faces a surprise condemnation notice, and Mr. Weatherbee finds himself at the center of a storm over his rumored retirement and a bold new plan to hand school control to students. Meanwhile, Archie’s absence looms large, leaving readers wondering just where he is as the town’s headlines spiral. Written by Frank Doyle and illustrated by Harry Lucey with inks by Marty Epp, the issue’s cover by Bob White captures the chaos in full color.

Betty receives a wedding invitation for Archie and Veronica. The year's top athletes list is posted and Reggie isn't on it, but Dilton is lettering in football. Mr. Lodge receives a notice that his property has been condemned to make way for a super highway. Reporters question Mr. Weatherbee about a notice they received about his upcoming retirement and his idea to turn the school administration over to a select group of students. Ms. Grundy thanks Mr. Weatherbee for offering to give teachers a raise out of his pocket per a notice on the bulletin board. But where is Archie during all of this?
