The Best of Archie's Madhouse #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis collection gathers a selection of the wildest and most absurd comic stories from Archie's Mad House, the publisher's short-lived but beloved humor magazine from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Featuring offbeat characters like the madcap genius Professor Flutesnoot and the mischievous little monster Cosmo, the volume showcases the zany, slapstick style that set Mad House apart from Archie's more wholesome teen titles. Curated by Craig Yoe, this IDW/Yoe Books edition preserves the original art and covers, offering a nostalgic look at a forgotten corner of Archie Comics history.
"Comicscope" in The Best of Archie's Madhouse #nn (2011, IDW; Yoe Books) delivers a delightfully absurd twist on identity and transformation, courtesy of writer George Gladir and the iconic art team of Dan DeCarlo and Rudy Lapick. When the son of Dr. Jerkyll accidentally becomes rock star Melvin Prestone, his attempts to escape fame by masquerading as FBI agent Eliot Mess only lead to more chaos—until a botched antidote sends things hilariously off the rails. The cover, a vibrant collaboration by Harry Lucey, Dan DeCarlo, Terry Szenics, and Dan DeCarlo, captures the issue’s manic energy perfectly.

The son of Dr. Jerkyll continues his father's experiments and turns into rock star Melvin Prestone. After a close escape with autograph hunters, he decides to change his features to Eliot Mess, the FBI agent. That doesn't work either, because gangs target him. He tries an antidote, but forgets to dilute it and ends up in an even worse predicament.
