Alex Schomburg was a Puerto Rican commercial artist and painter whose career in comic books spanned more than seven decades. Born Alejandro Schomburg y Rosa on May 10, 1905, he passed away on April 7, 1998. He is best known for his vivid, dynamic cover art for pulp-style comics, particularly during the Golden Age, where his work appeared on titles such as *Startling Comics*, *Thrilling Comics*, and *Black Terror Comics*. Schomburg’s style combined meticulous detail with a bold sense of action and color, making his covers instantly recognizable. He often collaborated with writers and editors at publishers like Better Publications and Nedor Comics, contributing to series such as *Broncho Bill* and *It Really Happened*. While he did not typically co-create characters, his striking covers helped define the visual identity of many adventure and superhero titles. Later in life, Schomburg shifted focus to fine art and illustration, continuing to produce work well into his nineties. His legacy endures as one of the most prolific and technically skilled cover artists of the early comic book industry, and he is remembered for elevating the craft of comic book art through his painterly approach.
