“Master Plan For Destruction”

In "Master Plan For Destruction," Torch and Toro race to a salt mine in Poland to stop Nazi scientists from producing the components of a super bomb. Captured in a vacuum chamber with only a sliver of air, Torch uses his flame to burn through the device, turning the sound of approaching bombers into a weapon against their captors. The story, illustrated with crisp precision by Jimmy Thompson, finds the heroes fighting back with ingenuity and fire. The cover, a striking wartime scene by Alex Schomburg, captures the tension of the moment.

Torch and Toro head for a salt mine in Poland where the chemicals for a super bomb are being produced. They are captured in a vacuum device and placed in a large block. Torch finds that he can flame with his finger using the small bit of air that the Nazis have left them so that they will be tortured by the sound of the bombers carrying super bombs lifting off for their targets. After Torch burns through, he and Toro make short work of the planes.
