☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue features three main stories: "Pyroman," in which a mysterious fire-wielding figure emerges from a glowing marshland to menace an unknown antagonist; "Bushmen" by Dean Garland, a tale set in the Dutch East Indies where young Hans Voorden becomes caught up in a dangerous espionage operation involving an Australian intelligence agent and native resistance; and "The Fighting Yank" in "The Case of the Hoofprint Triangle," wherein Bruce Carter receives a letter from a ranch foreman requesting urgent assistance with unspecified troubles on the property, prompting him to take a vacation to investigate.
When a gang of scoundrels begins systematically robbing newly discharged soldiers in the town of Leedsville, General Crosse enlists Bob Benton and his young friend Tim to break up the operation—and they devise a daring plan to use Jean as bait to draw out the criminals. As the trap is sprung and the gang strikes, Bob and Tim find themselves captured and face-to-face with the ruthless gang leader Burly Kent, forcing them to transform into the Black Terror and fight their way through a fortress of criminals and deadly traps to save Jean and bring the parasites to justice.
In the gloomy reaches of Black Swamp Hill, Pyroman and Doctor Clark search for rare lithium-laden meteors needed for a scientific experiment—only to stumble upon a sinister operation run by the mysterious villain known as "The Unseen," who commands an invisible grip over captive workers and pursues a master element that could control all matter. When "The Unseen's" forces strike at Doctor Clark's laboratory, his daughter Joyce pursues the attackers into the marshland, disappearing into the very darkness that conceals her captor's headquarters. Now Pyroman must navigate the treacherous swamp and uncover the truth behind "The Unseen's" shadowy plot before the villain's terrible weapon is completed.
When Bruce Carter's western ranch falls under threat, the Fighting Yank heads out to investigate—only to find himself caught between a ruthless villain called The Hood, a scheming rancher named Keppler, and a deadly plot involving stolen cattle and diverted water rights. With Joan Farwell and the ranch foreman Hank Todd caught in the crossfire, the Yank must uncover the connection between The Hood and Keppler's land grab before an act of sabotage destroys everything in its path. A high-stakes tale of rustling, deception, and frontier justice set against the backdrop of the American West.
