Marvel Masterworks: Golden Age Sub-Mariner #1
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis volume collects the earliest adventures of Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner, from his Golden Age debut in Marvel Comics #1 and his subsequent appearances in early issues of his own title. Restored and presented in a hardcover format, it showcases the original stories by writer-artist Bill Everett that established the antiheroic ruler of Atlantis as one of Marvel's first major characters.
In "Deep-Sea Blitzkrieg!", Namor must rise to command Atlantis when Hitler launches a brutal U-boat assault, leaving the emperor incapacitated. With his people fighting back in stealthy, sea-born ambushes using whales and sharks, and launching devastating counterattacks from icy gun emplacements, Namor leads a desperate defense. After being captured by the enemy’s flagship, he escapes by destroying the sub with his bare hands—returning to a rebuilt Atlantis, where he faces the next move in the war.
In "The Mystery of the Disappearing Island Part I," Sub-Mariner stumbles upon a hidden colony of Druids living beneath domes off the coast of Ireland—only to discover they're being forced by the Nazis to use their ancient knowledge to launch air raids on Britain. As he investigates the strange disappearance of the island itself, the sea's secrets begin to surface in ways he never expected.
In "Murders by Ghost Light," Sub-Mariner investigates a mysterious island hospital where a doctor’s unsettling presence has turned patients paranoid—and the property’s value plummeting. As eerie events escalate, the hero must uncover the truth behind the ghostly rumors before the doctor’s scheme claims more lives.
