Buck Ranger and Chico Charlie ride into Avalanche, Arizona hunting the notorious outlaw Wayne Arthur—alias the Sagebrush Kid—only to rescue the wounded man from a rattlesnake and discover he's the very fugitive they're after. Teddy Ames has always been happier working the ranch alongside her father than chasing the sort of life Conchita and the ranch hands think a girl should want—until the new veterinarian, Dr. Dave Baker, arrives to treat their ailing calves and challenges everything she thought she knew about herself. As Teddy's defenses crumble and her feelings for Dave shift from fury to something far deeper, a rabid coyote driven down from the drought-stricken hills forces a reckoning neither of them saw coming.
