Exciting Comics #40 from 1945 puts the Black Terror front and center in a dynamic Alex Schomburg cover that crackles with wartime energy — the skull-and-crossbones-clad hero tears through a group of enemy soldiers with both fists connecting in explosive bursts, wood splintering all around him. Schomburg's detailed linework gives every figure real weight and motion, from the grim-faced soldiers scrambling to respond to the Terror's relentless, cape-billowing charge. A fine example of Pines Publishing's wartime superhero output, and a great showcase for one of the Golden Age's most recognizable masked figures.
