In the first segment, Gloria Biltrock invites Richard Van Loan to a party at the Raj, where Van Loan is revealed to be a guest of honor; Van Loan later uses a phone to arrange a quiet sleuthing operation with a criminal contact. The story continues with Doc Strange pursuing what appears to be a group of blackmailers and thieves, leading to a climactic confrontation with drawn weapons. In a separate storyline, military officials brief soldiers on the capture of Colonel Takumara, an enemy sergeant; the sequence culminates in combat involving a futuristic red spherical craft that attacks military positions with machine-gun fire, killing soldiers and destroying barracks.
When Doc Strange and his sidekick Mike Ellis respond to a desperate call from a friend, they uncover a sinister Japanese spy operation centered around a horrifying bio-weapon: creatures that are part snake, part human. Racing against time to stop the saboteurs before they can unleash their monstrous creations on a nearby military conference, Doc must rely on his wits and combat skills to protect Virginia Thompson and prevent a catastrophic attack on the Allied war effort.
When a mysterious dagger changes hands at Raleigh's Curio Shop, the painted portrait on the wall seems to warn of danger—and sure enough, the customer who purchased it is found murdered that very night. As The Cavalier investigates the curious weapon and the web of suspects surrounding the art dealer's death, he must uncover what the dagger's altered hilt truly reveals before the real killer strikes again.
