“Meet Granny Bowzer”

"Meet Granny Bowzer" introduces a striking turn in the adventures of Princess Pantha, whose disappearance during a safari in French West Africa sends famed explorer Dane Hunter into the wilds to find her. When Hunter finally reaches the ambush site, he discovers Pantha has adapted to the jungle, living among the tribes and mastering survival with nothing but a leopard-skin outfit and a bow. Rendered with bold, expressive art by Ralph Mayo, this issue blends adventure and mystery in a story that redefines what it means to be a hero in the untamed world. The cover, by Alex Schomburg, captures the tale’s primal intensity with a vivid, dynamic image.

Animal tamer Princess Pantha is a major attraction at the circus of Gilt-Edge Gates. Sent to French West Africa as a publicity stunt, she has been missing for more than a month, and Gates asks famed explorer Dane Hunter to look for her. In flashback we see how Pantha's safari was attacked and broken up, and of how she was spared only because the tribesmen believed that the rogue gorilla named M'gana was nearby. Two months later, when Hunter reaches the ambush spot, we find that Pantha has gone native and now wears only a top and bottom of leopard skin, and has become proficient as an archer.
