Men of Mystery Comics #107
In "The Finger of Death Points at Silver Streak," Will Eisner crafts a taut, atmospheric thriller as the Pan-American Congress deploys the massive Caldwell Line—a fortified sea barrier meant to strangle Axis supply routes. When Madame La Coquin lures Black X to a high-society Washington soirée, her deadly intentions are masked by glamour, only for Batu to deploy a chilling illusion that turns the assassin’s target into a ghost. With the fate of the line hanging in the balance, the stakes rise in this masterfully drawn tale from Eisner’s pen, pencils, inks, and letters. The cover by Alex Schomburg captures the tension with sharp, elegant detail.

The Pan-American Congress erects "The Caldwell Line," like a seagoing Maginot Line, that parallels the entire eastern coast of the western hemisphere. This is in place in order to blockade the landlocked Axis powers, thus crimping their food supply. So now the Axis Secret Police need to do some sabotage, but first Madame La Coquin invites Black X to a fashionable Washington party, so that she can kill him. Batu uses an illusion to make them think Black X is really dead, allowing the Axis to complete their plans to destroy The Caldwell Line.
