Vince Colletta
Vince Colletta was an American comic book artist and art director, born Vincenzo Colletta on October 15, 1923, who became one of the most prolific inkers of the Silver Age. He died on June 3, 1991.
Born and raised with roots in the Italian-American experience, Colletta built a career in comics that spanned decades and thousands of issues — the catalog credits him on nearly 3,000 titles across work stretching from 1953 onward. His output ranged widely, from romance titles like *Love Romances* and *Romantic Story* to superhero staples including *Wonder Woman* and *Superman*.
His most enduring association, however, was with Jack Kirby at Marvel Comics. Colletta served as one of Kirby's most frequent inkers during the 1950s and 1960s, contributing to early issues of *Fantastic Four* and putting in a long, well-regarded run on Thor across both *Journey into Mystery* and *The Mighty Thor*. His inking style on those mythologically flavored stories became closely identified with the character during a formative period.
Colletta also worked as an art director, adding an editorial dimension to his industry presence beyond page-level craft. His connection to Thor proved lasting enough that the title appeared in Italian translation — *Il Mitico Thor* — among his most-credited work. He remains a significant, if sometimes debated, figure in Marvel's Silver Age history.
