Thor #136
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThor #136 is the pivot point of the entire Lee–Kirby Thor mythology: it simultaneously closes the book on Jane Foster as Thor's primary love interest — a role she had held since Journey into Mystery #84 (1962) — and begins the long romance between Thor and Lady Sif that would define the Asgardian corner of the Marvel Universe for decades. The issue also delivers the first appearance of the Lurking Unknown (a Fear Lord), and it is the first time Sif appears in her definitive silver-armored visual identity, marking a clean break from her brief, differently depicted debut in Journey into Mystery #102 (1964). Taken together, these pivots make it one of the most consequential single issues in the Silver Age Thor run.
In "To Become An Immortal!", Thor faces a test of destiny when Jane fails Odin's trial for immortality, returning to Earth with no memory of her time with the God of Thunder. Meanwhile, Thor reunites with Sif, the goddess and sister of Heimdall, after years apart—her presence stirring long-buried echoes from Asgard’s past. Written by Stan Lee and brought to life by Jack Kirby’s dynamic art and Vince Colletta’s inks, this 1967 classic features a cover by Kirby and Colletta that captures the mythic weight of the moment.

Written by Stan Lee and pencilled by Jack Kirby with inks by Vince Colletta, the issue carries a January 1967 cover date but was released to newsstands on November 3, 1966, during the creative peak of the Lee–Kirby collaboration on the title. The book published under the indicia of Atlas Magazines Inc. and was printed by Eastern Color Printing — standard production infrastructure for Marvel's Silver Age output. The issue contains two stories: the main Thor/Jane Foster/Sif narrative and a backup Tales of Asgard strip (also by Lee and Kirby) concluding the Fafnir arc.
