"Smart Girl" follows Emily Brown, a woman who learns that her domineering boyfriend Les Mason tries to control every aspect of her life—from what she eats to what she wears—and she realizes that being too accommodating to his demands is damaging their relationship. When Emily's employer Mr. Moss encourages her to think for herself and make her own decisions, she takes his advice to heart and begins asserting her independence.
