Barbara lives in a cheap tenement with her younger sister and brother. One day, Barbara returns home to discover her boyfriend has married her sister. But Barbara ends up too busy to be bitter because she is constantly trying to keep her brother out of trouble with the law. Her only support is her brother's probation officer, Fred.
