Born on July 29, 1974, Gail Simone is an American writer who has become one of the most prominent voices in mainstream superhero comics over the past two decades. She came to wider attention partly through her online column "You'll All Be Sorry" and her early advocacy work around the treatment of female characters in comics, before transitioning into a full writing career that has spanned well over 500 issues since around 2000.
Simone is perhaps best recognized for her sustained run on DC's Birds of Prey, which helped define that team book, and for holding the distinction of being the longest-running female writer on Wonder Woman. Her work on Secret Six earned particular praise for its sharp character dynamics and darkly comic tone, while her Batgirl run brought emotional depth to Barbara Gordon's return to the cape and cowl. She also wrote a celebrated, lengthy run on Red Sonja for Dynamite Entertainment, a character she revisited in her 2024 debut novel Red Sonja: Consumed, published by Orbit Books. Additional credits include The All-New Atom, Welcome to Tranquility, Clean Room, Deadpool, and a long-running contribution to The Simpsons comics. Her work has extended into television and video games as well.
Simone received an Inkpot Award at the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con, and her writing has earned nominations for the GLAAD Media Award.
