The All New Atom #8

Issue eight of The All New Atom arrives at the halfway point of its first year riding some serious momentum — Entertainment Weekly had already called it "Best New Ongoing Comic of the Year" by April 2007. José Ladrönn's cover delivers a striking visual: a towering figure whose skull and torso are rendered transparent to reveal a grotesquely exposed brain and visceral anatomy, while a tiny, red-and-blue-suited Atom perches on the villain's outstretched finger, energy beams radiating outward in every direction. Writer Gail Simone, artist Mike Norton, and inker Andy Owens keep the series firing on all cylinders with a chapter title as gloriously ambitious as the cover itself — "The Entropy of the Universe Tends to a Maximum."
