In Red Sonja #12 (2014), the warrior returns to Emperor Samala with the final artisan, Rakalia the Dancer, only to find the ruler has no intention of keeping his promise. With Samala preparing to sacrifice a thousand slaves and the artisans alike, Sonja is imprisoned—until Rat and her beasts spring her free. With her six artisans at her side, Sonja turns the tide against Samala’s guard in a fierce confrontation that ends with the emperor’s sudden demise. Gail Simone’s gripping storytelling and Walter Geovani’s dynamic art bring this high-stakes clash to life, while Jenny Frison’s striking cover captures the moment’s intensity.
