Domino #5

Gail Simone's Domino series hits its fifth chapter with a cover by Greg Land and Jay Leisten that puts the tension front and center — a battle-worn Domino presses her back against a crumbling wall, assault rifle raised and expression steely, while two mysterious figures loom in the cooler-toned background behind her. The split composition — warm, gritty earth tones on Domino's side versus the icy blue of the figures watching at her back — does a lot of quiet storytelling before you even crack the spine. With David Baldeón and Michael Shelfer bringing the interiors to life under Simone's sharp scripting, "Killer Instinct Part Five: Onimod" looks like a compelling penultimate turn for Marvel's luckiest mercenary.
