Paul Kupperberg, born June 14, 1955, is an American writer and editor whose career spans five decades of work across comics, prose fiction, and periodical journalism. He broke into the industry in the mid-1970s and built a substantial body of work primarily at DC Comics, where he served both as a prolific writer and later as an editor. His writing credits encompass more than 500 issues across titles including Superman, Superboy, Doom Patrol, Checkmate, The Vigilante, and Arion, Lord of Atlantis — the last of which stands among his more distinctive contributions, blending sword-and-sorcery with DC's broader continuity. His work tended toward character-driven superhero storytelling, and his long tenure at DC gave him deep familiarity with the publisher's publishing infrastructure as well as its characters. Beyond comics, Kupperberg served as executive editor of the Weekly World News and has written novels and newspaper strips, demonstrating a versatility that extends well past the superhero genre. In later years he has remained active as a writer and executive editor at Charlton Neo Comics and Pix-C Webcomics, while also contributing to Crazy 8 Press. His sustained productivity across an exceptionally wide range of formats marks him as one of the more quietly dependable craftsmen of his generation in American comics.
