The New Adventures of Superboy #54

Even outnumbered and under fire, Superboy surges upward in full cape and costume as two armored villains below argue over which of them deserves the honor of ending the Boy of Steel — a wonderfully tense setup captured with sharp energy by cover artist Eduardo Barreto. The Revenge Squad's bickering ("Never! That glory will be mine alone!") makes for a cover that's both menacing and darkly comic. Inside, Paul Kupperberg and Kurt Schaffenberger deliver the story, but this June 1984 issue sells itself the moment you see those guns raised and Superboy already one step ahead.
