Doom Patrol #16
The cover of this 1988 DC issue says it all — a snarling, bald villain looms enormous in the foreground, his oversized fists and furious expression radiating menace, while the scattered members of the Doom Patrol tumble around him in disarray, including a figure in a wheelchair. Erik Larsen's pencils and Arthur Adams's inks give the whole image a kinetic, eye-catching energy that perfectly sets up the "Hail to the Chief" lead story. As a bonus, the issue also promises the return of General Immortus in a backup story by Kupperberg, Nolan, and Starr — making this a genuinely packed installment for Doom Patrol fans.
