The Vigilante #32
In "Between a Rock and a Hard Place," the Vigilante finds himself at a moral crossroads when he uses Harry as a shield to evade the police—only to surprise even himself with a flicker of hesitation. As Adrian spirals deeper into self-destruction and Dave presses on in his hunt for the mob war’s mastermind, Harry faces renewed scrutiny over his investigation into Alan Welles’ death, now that Captain Hall has returned from medical leave to lead the task force. Written by Paul Kupperberg and brought to life by Tod Smith’s sharp pencils and Rick Magyar’s inks, this 1986 issue captures the tension and personal cost of vigilantism with quiet intensity. The cover by Tod Smith and Rick Magyar perfectly frames the moment’s uneasy balance.

Vigilante uses Harry as a human shield in order to get away from the police but Harry is sort of surprised that the guy he has been chasing down doesn't seem quite as violent as he used to be. Adrian and Dave have another fight about the Vigilante. Adrian continues his downward spiral by drinking too much and contemplating suicide. Dave continues to try and find the mastermind behind the mob war. Harry is getting chewed out for continuing to investigate the death of Alan Welles when Captain Hall returns from medical leave to head up the Vigilante task force.
