“Rest and Recreation!”

Poor Scotty — the cover tagline says all he wanted was a little "Rest and Recreation," but this 1985 DC issue makes it clear the universe had other plans. Tom Sutton and Klaus Janson's cover captures the chief engineer in his distinctive orange uniform, arms flailing amid an explosion of shattering debris, while an enormous blue hand looms ominously in the foreground and a shadowy figure lurks nearby. It's a wonderfully tense image that suggests Montgomery Scott's shore leave is going sideways in spectacular fashion, brought to life inside by writer Paul Kupperberg and artist Tom Sutton.
