Scooby-Doo and Shaggy find themselves in a genuinely unsettling predicament on the cover of this 2010 DC issue — the duo peers out from the hollow eye sockets of a towering, wide-mouthed phantom face crowned with a broad purple hat, with Shaggy nervously warning Scooby to "keep a sharp eye" just as something unexpected interrupts him. The tagline "Another Eye-Popping Mystery!" says it all, and cover artist Vince DePorter makes the most of the creepy-playful contrast between the gang's cartoon energy and that looming spectral visage. Inside, writer Paul Kupperberg and artist Roberto Barrios bring "The Phantom of the Opal!" to life — a mystery that sounds like it delivers exactly the spooky fun this series does so well.
