Arion, Lord of Atlantis #16

Arion, Lord of Atlantis finds DC's ancient sorcerer in dire straits on this February 1984 cover by Jan Duursema — the Atlantean champion is down on one knee, seemingly stripped of his staff and amulet, while a ferocious lion, tiger, and bear (all armed with swords) close in around him alongside other bestial warriors. It's a wonderfully wild tableau that promises the "Ceremonies" inside will test Arion well beyond conventional magic-versus-muscle odds. A fine entry in this fantasy-flavored series for anyone who enjoys sword-and-sorcery with a mythic DC twist.
