Arion, Lord of Atlantis Special #1

Arion, Lord of Atlantis gets an oversized 1985 DC Special all to himself, and the cover by Jan Duursema makes the most of it — the red-maned sorcerer dominates the composition with arms raised and mouth open in a battle cry, while a monstrous beast looms to his left, a fierce dark-haired warrior woman brandishes a sword at his side, and scenes of widespread chaos and combat erupt across the background beneath the ominous tagline "Death Knell!" It's a vivid, kinetic snapshot of a character who wears his Atlantean grandeur on his sleeve, rendered with confident energy by Duursema in both pencils and inks. Writer Paul Kupperberg closes out the saga with a story titled "Finale!" — and the cover promises that the stakes are nothing less than total.
