From the September 1984 cover by Rafael Kayanan and Dick Giordano, The Fury of Firestorm the Nuclear Man #27 promises a wild clash aptly titled "Birds of Prey!" — and the image delivers exactly that energy. Firestorm himself watches from a staircase as two fierce avian figures tear through the scene: a fiery, orange-winged woman in a dark costume battles a massive white bird-creature mid-air, while a translucent blue female figure — outlined in cool, ghostly tones amid a swirl of bubbles — hovers dramatically to the right, all framed by a churning vortex. Writers Gerry Conway, Carla Conway, and Paul Kupperberg team with artist Rafael Kayanan for what looks like one of the more visually striking installments of this run.
