Jason Aaron was born on January 28, 1973, and has become one of the more versatile and ambitious writers in mainstream American comics. He broke into the industry in the mid-2000s, and his catalog now spans well over 500 issues across both creator-owned projects and major superhero titles.

His creator-owned work arguably represents his most personal output. Scalped, a noir crime series set on a Lakota reservation, earned sustained critical attention for its moral complexity, while Southern Bastards brought a similarly unsparing eye to small-town Alabama, filtered through football culture and cycles of violence.

At Marvel, Aaron demonstrated equal command of blockbuster material. His Ghost Rider and PunisherMAX runs established his facility with darker characters, but his most consequential Marvel contribution came through a lengthy Thor saga. He co-created the villain Gorr the God Butcher and, crucially, introduced the idea of Jane Foster taking up Mjolnir and becoming Thor in the main Marvel Universe — a concept that fed directly into the 2022 film Thor: Love and Thunder. He also co-wrote the sprawling War of the Realms crossover event in 2019 and brought his sensibility to Wolverine and a long Avengers tenure. More recently he crossed to DC Comics for Absolute Superman.

His work on Scalped and Star Wars further demonstrated a rare range across tones, genres, and publisher contexts.
