Valkyrie: Jane Foster #1
In "The Sacred and the Profane," Jane Foster, now wielding the mantle of Valkyrie, swiftly deals with the Fast Five gang—only to lose Brunnhilde’s sword, Dragonfang, in the process. Back at work, her demotion to the morgue under Dr. Gillespie adds to her strain, but when she reaches out to the blind god Heimdall for help, their connection is violently severed by the very weapon they seek—wielded by the unhinged Bullseye. Written by Jason Aaron and Al Ewing, with bold artwork by Cafu and striking colors by Jesus Aburtov, this first issue of Valkyrie: Jane Foster sets a tone of mythic weight and escalating danger. The cover, by Mahmud Asrar, captures the moment’s intensity.

Jane, now Valkyrie, easily takes care of Blue Streak's thieves gang Fast Five, but fails to capture one of the stolen artifacts, Brunnhilde's sword, Dragonfang. At work, Jane is demoted to the morgue under medical examiner Dr. Gillespie. Jane, as Valkyrie, contacts the now-blind Heimdall, the god of seeing, to help find Dragonfang but he is suddenly run through by this same sword, wielded by the psychotic Bullseye.
