Scalped was one of Vertigo's most uncompromising crime series, and issue #49 — the conclusion of "You Gotta Sin to Get Saved" — arrives with a cover by Jock that perfectly matches the series' dark, foreboding tone. Against a bleached, wintry background, a massive bare tree dominates the image, its gnarled branches populated by shadowy figures with glowing red eyes, their presence radiating a quiet, menacing dread. Jason Aaron and R. M. Guéra bring this penultimate chapter of the run to a head with all the atmospheric weight the Prairie Rose Reservation deserves.
