From the city of K'un Lun, the Avengers try to figure out a way to stop the Phoenix force while running guerilla missions against the X-Men on Earth. Spider-Man tries not to get discouraged as many of his allies simply don't make it back. While trying to rescue Thor from the heart of a volcano which Magik has turned into a slice of Limbo, Spider-Man finds himself making a sacrifice play as he faces Colossus and Magik on his own. He is badly beaten but succeeds in turning the two against each other which causes the Phoenix force to desert them. An even more powerful Cyclops arrives in K'un Lun.
