The "Welcome to Smallville" sign looms over a battered Superman collapsed in a pile of rubble, his suit glowing with smoldering heat while a ring of armed men closes in around him — it's a striking image of the Man of Steel at his most vulnerable, set against the backdrop of his own hometown. Rafa Sandoval's cover work captures the tension beautifully, with the juxtaposition of that familiar Kansas welcome sign and a Superman clearly pushed to his limits.
