Joker's Asylum: Penguin #1

Part of DC's 2008 Joker's Asylum one-shot series, this Penguin-spotlighted issue puts Oswald Cobblepot front and center in a dramatically lit close-up — top hat casting a deep shadow over cold, scheming eyes, cigarette holder trailing a lazy curl of smoke, and a golden monocle glinting against the darkness. Jason Pearson's cover work renders the Penguin with an almost unsettling intimacy, all sharp linework and brooding shadow that makes him feel genuinely threatening rather than merely eccentric. With Jason Aaron scripting the interior tale "He Who Laughs Last...!", this is a fine showcase for one of Gotham's most underestimated villains.
