Brian Azzarello

Born on August 11, 1962, Brian Azzarello is an American comic book writer and screenwriter who built his reputation on morally complex, often noir-inflected storytelling. He first drew widespread attention with *100 Bullets*, a hardboiled crime series published through DC's Vertigo imprint that became one of the defining works of the label's mature-readers line.

Much of Azzarello's career has been shaped by sustained artistic partnerships. His longest-running collaboration is with artist Eduardo Risso, with whom he produced *100 Bullets*, *Batman: Broken City*, *Spaceman*, and *Moonshine*. He has also worked repeatedly with artist Lee Bermejo on titles including *Luthor*, *Joker*, and *Batman: Damned*. These partnerships gave his scripts a visual consistency that reinforced their gritty, character-driven tone.

Beyond his creator-driven projects, Azzarello contributed to prominent DC publishing events, including the *Watchmen* prequel project *Before Watchmen* and the *Dark Knight Returns* sequel *DK III: The Master Race*. He also wrote extended runs on the long-running Vertigo series *Hellblazer* and helmed the *Wonder Woman* title during DC's New 52 relaunch.
