First Wave #[nn]

Set in a world where Batman, Doc Savage, and The Spirit coexist, the story pits them against a shadowy conspiracy threatening their city. Written by Brian Azzarello with art by Rags Morales and others, it blends noir atmosphere with superhero action.
In "Bronze Night," the mysterious Spirit and a woman named Ebony steal a truck carrying a coffin from the Blackhawks, sparking a high-stakes chase that spans Hildago, Neolantis, and the streets of Gotham. As the Blackhawks hunt the hijackers, betrayals unfold and secrets surface—while Batman and the Avenger play a dangerous game of deception, posing as Clark Savage, Sr., to infiltrate the chaos. With Rags Morales' striking art and J. G. Jones' intense cover, this issue blends noir intrigue with the surreal, all written by Brian Azzarello and colored by Nei Ruffino.
In the heart of the Amazon, Johnny Littlejohn flees a mechanical assailant, while in New York, Doc Savage confronts a grave that holds a shocking secret—his father’s body replaced with gold dust marked by red hands. Meanwhile, the Spirit is drawn into a midnight meeting at Wildwood Cemetery, and John Sunlight begins to move his plans into motion. As Anton Colossi orders a village destroyed for sheltering Johnny, who’s been taken in by Rima, the Spirit’s path collides with the Blackhawks in a moment of sudden, tense confrontation.
In *First Wave Book Two*, the Avenger slips into a disguise as the Blackhawks close in on the Spirit and Ebony, who’ve stolen a truck carrying a mysterious coffin. With Johnny captured by the Right Red Hand cultists in Hildago and the floating city of Neolantis simmering with tension, the stakes rise as Doc Savage storms in to break the standoff—only to find himself tangled in a web of betrayal and hidden agendas.
In "First Wave Book Three," John Sunlight swims through the chaos as a storm of violence unfolds—Dolan’s enforcers clash with the Spirit, who commandeers an autogyro in mid-air. Batman, battered and hunted, barely escapes a deadly ambush by a Right Red Hand cultist, only to be rescued by the Avenger, who leads him to Hildago, where Colossi’s robot holds Johnny. Meanwhile, Doc breaks free from jail via a Blackhawk jet, and Ebony is sent on a grim mission to unearth a missing coffin.
In the shadowed streets of Hildago, the Blackhawks deliver a coffin to Colossi as Doc Savage faces a moonlit fate atop an Aztec temple. While Bruce Wayne explores the floating city of Neolantis, a sudden ambush in NYC leaves Monk, Ham, and the Avenger fighting for survival. The Spirit and Renny track Johnny through a jungle hold where Rima, wielding a knife and guarded by her panther, guards the key to his hidden disk—just as Batman, drawn by a desperate whisper, soars in on glider wings to turn the tide.
In "First Wave Book Five," Blackhawk Wu Cheng is felled by a rogue robot as the team scrambles to survive the Red Hand cult’s reach. With Doc and Batman evading capture and infiltrating the high-tech city of Neolantis, Renny races to secure a vital computer disk while Spirit and Rima are taken. In New York, the Avenger, disguised and determined, uncovers horrifying experiments before he and his allies are captured. As the threat of a global tsunami machine looms, the survivors face mutated iguanas, relentless robots, and the chilling precision of Colissi’s killers—each step bringing them closer to a world-altering secret.
In the ruins of Neolantis, as a reversed tsunami looms, Doc and Batman face off in a desperate final clash—Doc clinging to the edge of a collapsing city, his crew fleeing in an escape pod. With Johnny, Wu Cheng, and Rima barely escaping the collapsing pit, and the Golden Tree's grand experiment in irradiated gold undone in New York, the fate of the city rests on a single, uncertain victory.
