“...And Buried”

Brian Azzarello and Steve Dillon's Hellblazer run hits issue #157 with a cover by Tim Bradstreet that's all quiet menace — a tattooed hand bearing a skull mark lies splayed across weathered wood, while above it two hard-faced men loom in a bar setting, one with a cigarette dangling from his lip. The story title "...And Buried?" hangs at the bottom like an unfinished threat, perfectly in keeping with Vertigo's mature-readers tone in 2001. It's a moody, atmospheric package that captures everything distinctive about this era of John Constantine's world.
