Loveless #24
Brian Azzarello and Danijel Žeželj bring their gritty post-Civil War Vertigo series to a close with this final issue, and Marcelo Frusin's cover sets the tone perfectly — a scarred, determined man strides forward through open prison gates, holstered revolver at his side, while two Union soldiers flank him and a snarling dog lurks to the left. The blood-red sky and crumbling brick backdrop give the whole image a brooding, end-of-the-line weight that feels entirely earned after 24 issues. If you've been following Loveless through its unsparing look at Reconstruction-era America, this 2008 conclusion is the sendoff the series deserves.
