Wonder Woman #1
This collection launches Wonder Woman into DC's New 52 continuity, written by Brian Azzarello with art by Cliff Chiang. It reimagines the Amazon princess's origin, revealing that she is not the daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, but rather a clay figure brought to life by the gods, and pits her against a new threat involving the god of war, Ares. The volume collects issues #1–6 of the 2011 series, blending Greek mythology with a darker, more visceral tone.
In "The Visitation," Wonder Woman faces a new threat as she encounters Lennox, a half-mortal child of Zeus who warns that the gods are turning on one another in the wake of Zeus’s disappearance. As Diana confronts Poseidon on the surface, Lennox vanishes into the underworld, setting a dangerous chain of events in motion. Written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Tony Akins, with colors by Matthew Wilson and letters by Jared K. Fletcher, the cover by Cliff Chiang captures the mythic weight of this pivotal moment.
