The Incredible Hulk #1 (1962) Born Joseph Paul Reinmann in Germany on 2 September 1910, Paul Reinman built a career in American comics that spanned four decades and more than five hundred credited issues. He is perhaps best remembered for his work as an inker alongside Jack Kirby during the Silver Age, a partnership that placed him on historically significant ground: he inked the debut issues of both The Incredible Hulk and The X-Men, two titles that would go on to define Marvel Comics.
The X-Men #1 (1963) Reinman's active years stretched from 1941 onward, during which he contributed as artist, inker, colorist, and letterer across a remarkably wide range of publications. His most frequently credited titles reflect the breadth of mid-century genre comics — All-American Comics, Uncanny Tales, Sinister Tales, Creepy Worlds, Secrets of the Unknown, and Astounding Stories among them — suggesting a journeyman's versatility rather than narrow specialization. He moved comfortably through superhero, horror, and science fiction material as the market demanded.
The X-Men #4 (1964) Though Reinman rarely received the marquee recognition afforded to pencilers, his role in translating Kirby's dynamic layouts into finished page art during a formative era gives him a firm place in the history of the medium. He died on 27 September 1988.
