Amazing Stories of Suspense #59
"High Level Visitor" delivers a chilling twist on urban paranoia, as the molemen of San Francisco’s underbelly rise in response to decades of exile. Written by Carl Wessler and illustrated with gritty precision by Paul Reinman, the story unfolds with a quiet dread as underground tensions erupt above ground—only to retreat in silence when the city’s panic mirrors their own fear. Dick Giordano’s stark cover captures the moment the surface world realizes something ancient has been watching from below.

Angry molemen want revenge for being forced to live in warrens on the outskirts of San Francisco so they plan an invasion. When the earthquake brought on by their tunneling produces multiple fires, they figure that the citizens must have thought to destroy their town rather then have them take it over, so they return to their caves and collapse the entrance behind them.
